January: Participate in Souper Bowl Sunday. Collect $1 and /or cans of soup from each member of your congregation for your local pantry on Super Bowl Sunday.
February: Plan to attend “Living on the Edge” Poverty Simulation Workshop at some point this year. Call for dates.
March: “Undie Sunday” New unused underwear is often not available for those who need them. Hold a drive to collect under garments for adults and children and donate them to your local pantry.
April: Organize an Easter Food Drive. Food drive ideas and a daily collection calendar are available from ACCESS.
May: GRACE Hunger Walk: On the first Saturday of every May, thousands of walkers are needed to raise funds for pantry assistance, emergency meals and development programs for both the Grand Rapids international community.
June: Build an “ACCESS Sundae” (flyers available) to help us meet needs during the summer when kids are home from school all day and numbers are highest at our pantries.
July/August: Organize a “Back-to-School” collection to help low-income families get ready to start the new school year.
September: “Buckets of Love”: Hold a drive to collect buckets of cleaning products to offer to low-income families visiting the pantries.
October: County Wide Food Drive: On the second Saturday in October, volunteers are needed for a variety of positions including door-to-door canvassing, food box assembly, and participating in organizing the event by joining a team in your area.
November/December: Volunteers are needed to register families at each food pantry October through November. Volunteers are also needed to provide holiday baskets for families who have applied.
